Kaliforniya’nın Sacramento kasabasında doğan ve yetişen John Poppleton, henüz 1988 yılında bir lise öğrencisiyken fotoğraf hayatına başladı. John was born and raised in the suburbs of Sacramento, CA. He was introduced to photography during his junior year of high school in 1988. He pursued all areas of photography very passionately as a hobby until becoming a professional portrait photographer in 1993, after several friends convinced him to photograph their weddings. It has always been John’s goal to create something original and different but fantasy portraits were never part of the plan.
“I wasn’t looking for it, it found me… Around 2003 Photoshop introduced a new tool called liquify and just to show what it could do I stretched a brides ears and turned her into an elf. (“Lord of the Rings” was in theatres about this time.) It turned out so nice I put a copy in my portfolio and it just evolved from there. But things really took off when the owner of a faerie collectable store asked me to create 12 images for a calendar. That’s what gave me the biggest push”.
Poppleton, direkt olarak insan vücudu üzerine dikkat çeken resimler yapıyor. “Black Light Bodyscapes” isimli serisinde kadın modellerinin sırtına yansıttığı floresan ışığı ile garip doğa manzaraları oluşturuyor. Modeller, simsiyah bir ışık altında bu inanılmaz görüntüler yaratılırken fotoğraflanıyor. Sanatçı kadın vücudunun güzelliğiyle, göz kamaştıran doğal dünyayı harmanlıyor. Resimlerinde kullandığı dalga ve formlarla feminen vücutlara güçlü bir biçimle Doğa Ana’yı yerleştiriyor.
John Poppleton creates sensational works of art painted directly on the human body. His “Black Light Bodyscapes” series consist of whimsical nature scenes painted with fluorescent pigments on the backs of female models. The models are then photographed under black light to produce these incredible visuals. “Poppleton’s bodyscapes combine the beauty of the female form with the the splendor of the natural world. He incorporates the curves and shapes of the models into his paintings, making a strong allusion to the feminine essence of Mother Nature on their bodies.”
